Brief introduction of J-BJI: 

Jinan University, established in 1906, located in the historical and modern city of Guangzhou, is a leading Chinese university, and one of the ‘211 Prestigious’ universities in China. We have an international outlook and over 50,000 students. Seven subject areas at Jinan University are ranked in the top 1% on the ESI ranking scale. These seven subject area are evaluated highly by the Ministry of Education, with Applied Economics ranked 5th and Statistics ranked 8th at national level. 

The University of Birmingham (UoB) is a public research university located in Birmingham, United Kingdom. It is a founding member of both the ‘Russell Group’ of British research universities and the International Network of Research Universities, ‘Universitas 21’.. UoB is ranked amongst the top 100 universities globally. It is ranked 15th in the UK in the Guardian league table, and its Mathematics is ranked 9th in the UK in the Guardian league table. UoB has been awarded a Gold rating in the Government’s new Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). 

Jinan University- University of Birmingham Joint:

Institute (J-BJI) at Jinan University is a ‘Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in Running Schools’ organization approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education in 2016. Currently, JBJI offers four undergraduate programs: Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Information and Computing Science, Statistics with Economics, and Economics. The four programs offered by the Joint Institute focus on integrating knowledge with application, the cultivation of mathematical and economic professionals in cross- disciplinarily fields, and excellence in the fields of social science and natural science. The primary aim of these programs is to cultivate high-level talents who are equipped with solid mathematical skills, global vision, strong competitiveness and innovation, and English language proficiency. 

The Joint Institute welcomes high caliber faculty from diverse backgrounds from around the world to join us and establish a top-tier joint institute in China. 

Candidates should:

· For the Associate Professor post, hold a PhD degree in English language teaching or applied linguistics, with extensive experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in English language and/or linguistics and/or education 

· For the Assistant Professor post, hold a PhD degree in English language teaching or applied linguistics, with some experience at least at undergraduate in English language and/or linguistics and/or education 

· For the Lecturer position, hold a Master degree in a Applied Linguistics or TESOL-related area

· For all positions, have proven record of teaching excellence, and relevant experience in teaching EAP, ESP and content-based courses at tertiary level 

· For all positions, have excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal 

Skills:

Responsibilities (depending on level of appointment) include 

· teaching English for Academic Purposes courses (including IELTS)

· designing language learning materials

· hosting workshops and seminars on specific topics in English 

· reviewing and revising administrative documents and publications

· tutoring and consultation

· administrative assignments 

· completing other related work assigned by Joint Institute. 

Salary and Fringe Benefits (in accordance with level of appointment): 

· Annual salary from 180-360,000 RMB (tax included) 

· Medical care and Commercial Insurance on Life and Accident according to the prevailing labor laws applicable to the PRC

· Round-trip international airfare from home country to Guangzhou for the appointee him/herself each year of contract
